Following the resounding success of the “Sparkle and Charm: Canton Enamels of the Qing Dynasty” exhibition held at the CUHK Art Museum from September 2022 to April 2023, the exhibition has embarked on a world tour. After its successful debut at the Tianjin Museum, the exhibition continues its global journey at the World Expo Museum, Shanghai. Co-organised by the CUHK Art Museum and World Expo Museum, this exhibition, titled “Western Porcelain & Chinese Enamel: Canton Enamels Collection of the Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong”, revolves around the theme of exchange. Featuring 136 sets of exquisite Canton enamels from the Art Museum, the exhibition highlights their distinctive East-meets-West elements. Through the incorporation of European enamel materials, Western figures, Chinese painting techniques, and oriental ceramics motifs, it showcases the historical trade and cultural exchange between China and the world. The exhibition aims to captivate audiences by showcasing the advanced techniques of Canton enamelling, the vibrant use of colours, and various painting methods.
