Venue: Gallery I, Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
"5354"* is a state of ambiguity, as if we are stumbling between bewilderment and enlightenment, faltering on our search for answers to life and death. How far is it between life and death, how distant is it between the beginning and the end? Our life is a dream, we might wake up only when we die. The end and the beginning alternates between each other, their boundary is blurry, inseparable like the shadow from the object.
How can one get enlightened in bewilderment?
“5354" presents the works of our 18 graduates from the Master of Arts (Fine Arts) program of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Our pace might not be the same, but the crucial thing is the path we take and the attitude we adopt. Soon we will reach the end of this cycle, and a new scene is about to start in silence. As we carry on with our walk forward, the end of an inspiration is where the enlightenment starts.
*5354 in Cantonese is a homophonic pun meaning both ambiguous state (neither three nor four) and enlightenment (on life and death).
