How can age-old traditional art and emerging technologies be synthesized? The integration of the new and the old has been a much scrutinized and deliberated subject for long. The "Hong Kong in Arts: Creative Arts Technology and Cultural Inheritance Programme for Gifted Students" is jointly organized by the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies and the Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong as an attempt to respond to the question^. 38 gifted secondary students interested in art were selected to join a one-year training programme featuring diverse learning activities that offer knowledge and experience of ancient Chinese material culture and modern technological tools. Through the final art creation exercise, students reflected on and presented their exploration of the infinite possibilities in combining tradition with modernity.

Their graduation showcase, titled “Antique Revival”, will be held in the Art Museum from 22 to 29 June, 2024. In this exhibition, you can see installation and moving images artworks created by 8 groups of students under the guidance of practicing artists. Orbiting the theme of "inheriting Chinese culture", the works demonstrate the students’ renewed perception of and affective connection with four topics: Chinese ceramics, painting, calligraphy and artefact preservation.

Join us at the Art Museum to embark on an old-meet-new journey and experience Chinese culture from a refreshing perspective.
